Interesting fact about alpacas: The alpaca (Vicugna pacos), is classified under the biological family Camelidae along with camels, dromedaries, llamas, vicuñas, and guanacos. Alpacas were assumed to have evolved from llamas, but evidence from alpaca DNA shows that the alpaca actually descended from the vicuña.
